Czerwony Dwór, st. XXI, woj. warmińsko-mazurskie. Badania w latach 2013-2014

Abstrakt

The barrow burial site of the Gołdap Group of the Sudovian culture in czerwony Dwór (site XXI) has been investigated since 2003. In 2013 excavations were conducted in an area between the burial mounds in the south-eastern tumuli concentration. one barrow from the Late Roman Period (no. 31) was investigated. Moreover, in the area between the mounds were found two cremation burials (nos. 171 and 175) and one feature containing a broken vessel (no. 172). chronology of the finds confirms a previous hypothesis that the barrows in the SE concentration were built in the Late Roman Period, whereas the single features found in the same area can be dated to the Migration Period. During the 2014 season, the northern part of the burial site, previously unexplored, was investigated. Two multiple burials, ‘family’ barrows from the Migration Period (nos. 1 and 5), wereexcavated, resulting in discovery of 21 features, mainly cremation burials. The barrow no. 5 was built in Phase D, while the barrow no. 1 probably in Phase E2, which makes it one of thelatest constructions of this type in the Gołdap Group of the Sudovian culture.
