Abstrakt

The beginnings of conscious protection of archaeological findings and their collecting in museums in Poland date back to the first decades of the 19 th century. Great merits in this field should be ascribed to the Warsaw Society of Friends of Sciences which operated in the years 1800—1830. Findings gathered in its collections were lost but in some cases we can make use of them thanks to archival records. The author publishes information about the cemetery of the Roman period at Opinogóra (Ciechanów province), so far unknown in literature. Findings from one tomb unearthed in this cemetery were passed to the collections of the Society by general count Wincenty Krasiński in 1822. There is a detailed description of the finding made by Krasiński, as well as information given by the Warsaw antiquarian, Krzysztof Wiesiołowski. It can be said that there was bi-ritual cemetery at Opinogóra. One female skeleton burial covered with flag-stones was described in a detailed way. The equipment of the tomb consisted of three bronze ßbulae, three different glass beads and several amber beads as well as a bone comb.
