Tanais, Russia. Excavations in the 2016 season

Abstract

The works were carried out between 27th June and 26th July 2016. 1 They involved 31 persons, including students of the University of Warsaw, volunteers, and researchers from Poland (University of Warsaw and Warsaw University of Technology)and the Russian federation. 2 The works wereconducted in thesouthern part of Trench XXv – the squares 26–29 (the area of the defensive ditch) and 118–120 (the area of the so-called Turkish embankment). The aim of this year’s research was to continue exploration of the western line of fortifications and their nearest suroundings, including buildings dated to the 1stc. BC.
