The third season of excavations at Gurukly Depe, Southern Turkmenistan (2012)

Abstract

Between 15 September and 17 october 2012 the Polish-Turkmen archaeological mission carried out its third excavation season at the ancient site of Gurukly, a Partho- -Sasanian fortress (qala) in the Serakhs oasis, southern Turkmenistan. The excavations were financed by Research Grant No. N N109 092639 from the Ministry of Science and higher Education, and were conducted by the Polish team, directed by the author, in cooperation with the Archaeological Park Köne Serakhs headed by director Anamurat Amanberdiev. The participants were: Nazar Buławka, Monika Rożańska-Kardaś, Maja Rzeplińska (University of Warsaw), Piotr Piekarz (State Archaeological Museum in Warsaw), Atamurat odayew (Archaeological Park Köne Serakhs) – archaeologists,and a group of students from the Institute of Archaeology, University of Warsaw: Paweł Borycki, Marta höffner, dominika Kossowska, Marta Kuśnierek, Adrianna Madej, dominika Majchrzak and Katarzyna Turczyn. Two majoraims of the 2012 season were: 1)extension of the architectural plans uncovered during the first two seasons; 2) clarification of the sequence of occupation of the site.
