Non-destructive archaeological investigations in the River Sárviz Valley (Hungary), 2012

Abstract

The Institute of Archaeology of the University of Warsaw was one of the partners in the workshop and field surveys held in hungary in Autumn 2012. The project supported by the International visegrad Fund involved partners from hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia as well. The affiliated participants are scholars from the Eötvös Loránd University, the hungarian National Museum – National heritage Protection Centre, the Comenius University in Bratislava, the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Archaeology of the University of Warsaw. The workshop engaged independent researchers and the IvF grantee, Archeomap company from Poland. The aim of the project was to exchange ideas and experience in detecting archaeological remains and reconstructing ancient landscapes through remote sensing methods. Field walking methods, their implementation in different conditions and different goals in archaeology were the main subject. Within theframes ofajoint research programme held by the hungarian host and launched with Czech, Polish, and Slovakian partners, the participants tried to show methods implemented in their countries, develop and improve them by using different measuring devices, and finally implement the best, universal method, suitable for the hungarian conditions.
