Abstract

THE KALININGRAD COUSIN OF "SWIATOWIT". In a rather small volume periodical "Erleutertes Preussen", the Kaliningrad cousin of "Swiatowit", little place was devoted to archaeology. This branch of knowledge, as well as the publishing house, flourished in the twenties of the 18 th century, when German versions of the archaeological Latin works, archaeological excavation reports and descriptions of "the ancient peculiarities" found in parishes came in print. The scientific value of that evidence is debatable, but one must not underestimate the energy with which the Prussian intellectual elite of that day registered and saved "local antiquities". It is on the pages of that periodical that the pride caused by archaeological findings from Prussia was displayed. 1 7
